Evan Nichols has taken his place on Local 848's Executive Board. He was elected Chairman of our biggest unit, Lockheed-Martin. The former Chairman, Marty Giesecke, has taken his place on the Board as newly-elected Trustee. All of them wear red on Wednesdays as encouraged by our International Union. When new shirts are bought, they will probably also be mostly red.

The retirees have begun electoral work by writing postcards at our regular 2nd Thursday meeting.

In our August retiree meeting, Jane Collins was our speaker. She told us about the interesting developments in Tarrant County. While Tarrant County has a reputation for reactionary politics, Collins said that an upsurge of the common people is taking place. One of the main issues is data centers, but voting rights and deaths in the County Jail are also big topics.

UAW Local 129 is also trying to get its retiree program together. Hopefully, both locals will have retirees at the meeting at 11 AM on the 2nd week in October. September will probably be skipped, because there will be statewide protests September 9-10.

The UAW International has elections coming up. The Monitor sent this out:

Key Dates

Key upcoming dates for the 2026 Election are included below. This information is also included on the Informal Notice of 2026 Election, which is linked here and posted on the Monitor’s website at www.uawmonitor.com/elections.

  • On or about August 21, 2026: First distribution of mail-in ballots to the Electorate.
  • August 26, 2026: First date when requests for replacement ballots may be made to the Election Vendor at www.uawmonitor.com/ballots or by calling 855-433-8683.
  • September 23, 2026: Final date by which replacement ballots can be requested from the Election Vendor.
  • September 30, 2026: Final date by which members must be in good standing in order to have their vote counted in the Election. 
  • October 5, 2026: Deadline for all return ballots to be received by the designated U.S. Post Office in order to be counted.
  • October 6, 2026: Vote tabulation begins (Rosemont, IL).

Updating Member Information

If you have not already done so, please update or confirm your contact information with your Local Union or at https://myinfo.uaw.org as soon as possible. It is not too late to ensure that the Union has the right information for you on file for the 2026 Election. While the ballot mailing will begin on or about August 21, 2026, the last day you may request replacement ballots is September 23, 2026. Further, the eligibility deadline—the deadline by which you must be in good standing in order to have your vote counted in the 2026 Election—is September 30, 2026. This means that the voter eligibility list for the 2026 Election will be generated using member records as of that date.

Even after the 2026 Election, you are strongly encouraged to update or confirm your contact information on a regular basis. Local Unions should also continue to regularly update member records in LUIS to ensure the UAW maintains accurate information about its membership.

Ballots and Other Mailings

As noted above, on or about August 21, 2026, the Election Vendor will begin distributing mail-in ballots to the electorate. 

Please be aware that some members will receive more than one ballot in the mail. There are several potential reasons for this, none of which should give you any concern about the integrity of the election process. 

First, some members will be mailed more than one ballot because the UAW has more than one potentially valid address on file for the member. As with the 2022 UAW International Officer Election, the Election Vendor has a system in place to flag all potential duplicate ballots so that if/when they are returned, only one ballot per eligible member will be counted.

Second, some members may receive more than one ballot because there are duplicative records for that member within LUIS or another data source possessed by the UAW, often with variances on a member’s name, address, or even in some cases, because they transferred, joined a new local, and the original record was not removed. Again, the Election Vendor has created safeguards designed to flag any potential duplicate ballot so that if one or more is returned under these circumstances, only one ballot per eligible member will be counted. 

If you receive more than one ballot, please return only one and dispose of any others. Although there are systems in place to identify potential duplicate ballots, you should also notify the Election Vendor that you received more than one ballot by calling 855-433-8683 or visiting http://www.uawmonitor.com/ballots, which will direct you to the Election Vendor’s website (www.uawvote.com). 

As you may know, in May 2026, the UAW mailed postcards to addresses associated with a broad set of member records. The mailing was a test intended to identify addresses and sources of data that are no longer current or active so that the UAW could update and correct records going forward, including for the 2026 Election. The postcard mailing list is not the same as the UAW’s Global Mailing List that will be used to send ballots. Accordingly, just because you did not receive a postcard, that does not mean you will not receive a ballot. Indeed, the Global Mailing List has been updated and improved since the time the postcards were sent.

Finally, the election edition of Solidarity Magazine will be mailed on or about August 20, 2026. Please note that receiving—or not receiving—a copy of the magazine is not an indication of your eligibility to vote in the 2026 Election. As noted above, you should update or confirm your contact information through https://myinfo.uaw.org or your Local Union.

Candidate Forums

Pursuant to the Monitor’s Candidate Forum Rules, in July 2026, the Monitor conducted voluntary Candidate forums for the following three offices: (1) International President; (2) International Secretary-Treasurer; and (3) International Vice President. All nominated Candidates for each of these offices participated in their respective Candidate Forum according to the procedures described in the aforementioned rules. Steven Greenhouse, American labor and workplace journalist and writer, served as the independent moderator for the Candidate Forums.
