Next, we will restore our regular monthly retiree meetings at 11AM on 2nd Thursdays at the hall. Please come!

Local 848 retirees hosted active and retired members on MayDay. We were part of a worldwide chain of protests and celebrations that involved millions. MayDaystrong, org, the union web site, says, "On May 1, 2026, millions of workers, students, and families made their voices heard in actionsacross the country to demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires, with many refusing business as usual through No School. No Work. No Shopping." They claimed 5,000 events in the United States. At least six of them were here in North Texas.

There were rallies and marches in downtown Fort Worth and Dallas.

The newly-forming North Texas Area Labor Federation sponsored a picnic on May 3.

Retirees were prominent at every event

Texas seniors, including those at 848, are learning about a pilot program that threatens Medicare. It is called "WISeR," but it is dumber from our point of view. It undermines Medicare by introducing "prior authorization." It uses artificial intelligence to overrule our doctors. The perpetrators get paid $cash$ every time they turn down an insurance claim! You can sign the petition on line here.

The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans invites all seniors to our picnic at noon on the first Wednesday at Kidd Springs Park, 831 Kidd Springs in Dallas. Local 848 retirees will resume our regular monthly 2nd Thursday luncheons at 11 AM on May 14. We can't afford to ignore the fact that retiree benefits are under severe attack. Organizing with our union is our only hope!
