UAW Region 8 Director emphasized importance of retirees

Our retirees met in the conference room on the 2nd Thursday, October 8. The main auditorium was being used by the Southwest States political leaders. It worked out really well for both of us. Region 8 Director Tim Smith visited the retiree meeting twice to emphasize the importance of seniors in today's politics. As Local 848 retiree president, I was invited to say a few words to the CAP meeting. Tevita Uhatafe, our main speaker for the retiree meeting, was asked to address the political meeting as well.

As Tevita Uhatafe said, "Retirees do something!" and the proof was in the leaflets we distributed.

Retirees are holding a rally October 14 at 10AM at 1100 Commerce in Dallas. We will say that the solution for Social Security is to allow wealthy people to pay Social Security taxes all year, instead of stopping after they make a minimum (for them) amount. The main candidate in the Texas elections, James Talarico also supports "Scrap the Cap" to save Social Security!
