Retirees In The Fight!

Local 848 retirees and other Mid-Cities retirees gathered for our regular 2nd Thursday luncheon on May 14. UAW Local 129, which shares our hall, had important democracy work to do in the auditorium, so we squeezed into the conference room. It was like a family dinner!

Our guest speaker was the Labor President of all 9 North Texas counties, Tevita Uhatafe. You can catch most of his talk on https://www.facebook.com/gene.lantz.7/videos/982881570769790. He gave an honest appraisal of problems that unions face, but he had a generally hopeful message for the future.
In our discussion, we talked about attacks on our programs such as Social Security and Medicare and how to fight back. We also took note of the general downward trend in our living standards, especially the prices of groceries and gasoline. The Dallas newspaper recently ran an article about how hard it is for retirees to live, and they published, that same day, a letter from me.

Also on that same day, the National Alliance for Retired Americans posted all the things that happened at their national convention in Las Vegas. They recorded their speakers. They summarized their workshops. They shared their conclusions and pointed out the direction that retirees must take. They also listed their resolutions. Resolutions covered all of the traditional areas for retiree fights such as Social Security, health care, and pensions. Right at the end, they also listed a strong resolution that was unusual for retirees: "The Alliance for Retired Americans Publicly Opposes the War in Iran." Everything is happening. Join us at 11AM on the 2nd Thursday in June!
In solidarity
