Juneteenth - A Time of Celebration

Juneteenth - a holiday celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 when then-President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.
To celebrate this occasion, the Rec Committee held a Juneteenth Masquerade Ball on Saturday, 6/14/2025. The turnout was amazing and the food even better. What an awesome way to come together to remember what this day means to so many of our membership brothers and sisters.
