Red Shirt Wednesdays

Red Shirt Wednesday is a tradition where thousands of union members wear red shirts on Wednesdays to show solidarity and make their voices heard. The tradition began in 1989 with the Communications Workers of America (CWA), who wear red on Thursdays to remember Gerry Horgan, a CWA member who was killed by a car while on a picket line during a strike against Bell Atlantic. Horgan's death led to a wave of red picket lines across the United States, and the tradition has taken on more meaning in recent years as legislatures have attacked workers' rights.

We would like to thank Brother Ron Rippey for taking Red Shirt Wednesday pictures on his own time help show the solidarity that we have here at Freightliner in Cleveland, North Carolina.
