UNIT 1 (GM) SHOP CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
MARCH 2026

KENNETH D.  HINES
UNIT 1 (GM) SHOP CHAIRPERSON

FULL-TIME TEMPORARY TO FULL TIME TEMPORARY

Local UAW leadership and GM management at the Arlington facility have agreed to extend the 120 full-time temporary employees past the March 31st signing date.  This is subject to the National Parties’ approval, but it puts our full-time temporary employees on a path to reach their 9 months toward gaining seniority.

The duration of this work schedule will be until further notice; we ask that all full-time temporary employees continue to work their current schedule until they are told otherwise.

The manpower needs will be re-evaluated to determine the status of said members at a later date.  If you have any questions about this subject, please contact your committeeperson.

SPECIAL ATTRITION PROGRAM (SAP) $50,000

On Monday, March 9, 2026, at the UAW/GM National Council Meeting all chairpersons and presidents were informed that the 3rd and FINAL Special Attrition Program (SAP) window will be rolled out in early 2026.  Information will be coming out soon with date, times, and eligibility requirements.  We will keep you updated as information becomes available.

Chairpersons and presidents advocated that all members who wanted to participate in the SAP program will have the ability to retire with the $50,000 bonus.  Below are some of the requirements that were presented to the body.

  1. There will be no cap on the number of eligible participants who want to participate in the final window.

  2. Some members will have the ability to participate and retire in 2026.

  3. If you have a 1997, or earlier, seniority date you will be able to participate in this window with 30 and out.

  4. Members with 85 points or 60 years of age & 10 years of service      will need to wait until further information comes out for their availability to participate in the SAP.

We ask that all members be patient with this process because there are still a lot of unanswered questions.  Any questions can be forwarded to your local benefits representatives at 817-652-2485 or the UAW Solidarity House GM Department at 313-926-5000.

P.96 MOVES TO ORION & PONTIAC STAMPING

We have submitted paperwork to the Company to start the process to negotiate the P.96 moves of seniority members wanting to relocate to Orion Assembly & Pontiac Stamping.  This is still in the beginning stages of negotiation and has to be approved by the International Union.  Your shop committee felt like they needed to get in front of these issues to make sure our members are getting what’s due to them and not being left out due to other facilities laying off members.

This move will be a major transfer of operations between Arlington Assembly, Orion Assembly, and Pontiac Stamping.

The Cadillac Escalade accounts for 15% of our build schedule at Arlington Assembly; we feel this will allow for the members listed below to follow the work that is being relocated to Orion Assembly.

  • Requested to allow up to 700 seniority production team members to relocate with Option 1 – Enhanced Relocation:

    • Team Leaders & Team Members

  • Requested to allow up to 53 skilled trades members to relocate with Option 1 – Enhanced Relocation:

    • 34 Electricians

    • 7 Millwrights

    • 5 Pipefitters

    • 4 Toolmakers

    • 2 Stationary Engineers

    • 2 Diemakers

    • 1 Machine Repair

Due to the Cadillac dies being relocated to Pontiac Stamping, the request under P.96 of the National Agreement is to allow Diemakers to be able to follow the Cadillac dies to Pontiac.

  • Requested to allow up to 3 skilled trades Diemakers to relocate to Pontiac Stamping with Option 1 – Enhanced Relocation:

    • 3 Diemakers

RETIREE & DECEASED PROFIT SHARING

Profit sharing will be paid out on March 20, 2026, for all the members who retired in the 2025 calendar year and on April 24, 2026, for all the members who were deceased in the calendar year 2025.

SOLIDARITY WEDNESDAY

We would like to thank all members that are participating and wearing their Red Shirt on Wednesdays.  This shows a form of SOLIDARITY and is an important statement to the membership as well as management.

STAMPING DEPARTMENT PRESS REBUILD

The Stamping Department will start rebuilding the press line by taking the 1st press down on May 4, 2026.  This project will last for an estimated 6 months on each press line totaling up to 18 months for final completion.  This will cause a temporary reduction in force for the manpower in stamping until the work is completed.

FMLA

Be careful when applying for or using FMLA.  We have had many employees fired over the past few months due to FMLA violations.  Make sure that you are approved for the time off before you start taking any time; once you are denied they will not back up and cover the missed days.

When calling in, you must call in 30 minutes before the start of your shift to the General Motors call-in-line and then stay on the line until it is turned over to FMLA.  Keep both of your confirmation numbers.

We say once again, DO NOT TAKE ANY DAYS UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE UNTIL YOU HAVE THE APPROVAL PAPERWORK FOR FMLA IN YOUR HAND! Your job could depend on it.

ASK DON’T TAKE / FS

Year to date, our members have received 25,810 days off without using vacation due to the ask don’t take / FS program.

We ask that you schedule FS days to preserve your FMLA hours if at all possible.

In Solidarity,
KENNY HINES
