UAW LOCAL 276
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
JUNE 2026

A NEW CHAPTER FOR UAW LOCAL 276

Brothers, Sisters, and Siblings,

It is the greatest honor of my life to stand before you as your newly elected President of UAW Local 276. I was sworn into this office on June 14, 2026, and I want each and every one of you to know that I do not take this responsibility lightly. This Local was built on the sacrifices of the members who came before us, and we owe it to them – and to ourselves – to keep moving forward.

We are turning the page. A new chapter for Local 276 starts right now – and it starts with YOU. A union is only as powerful as its engaged membership. My commitment to you is to make this Local more transparent, more accessible, and more responsive to the members on the floor. I am asking you to meet me halfway. Come to the meetings. Get involved. Make your voice heard. This is your union.

MEMBER ENGAGEMENT – THIS IS YOUR UNION

One of my top priorities is getting more members actively involved in the life of this Local. Too many of our Brothers, Sisters, and Siblings have felt disconnected from what happens at the Union Hall, and that changes now. We will be forming new committees, hosting more informational sessions, and making sure communication flows clearly from leadership to the membership and back again.

If you have ideas, concerns, or would like to serve on a committee, please contact the Union Hall at (972) 647-1282 or visit us at 2505 W. E. Roberts Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75051. This Local belongs to all of us.

UAW 39TH CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION – JUNE 15-18, 2026

The UAW is holding its 39th Constitutional Convention from June 15-18, 2026 – just one day after my installation. Convention delegates will nominate candidates for UAW International Officer positions. Following the convention, mail-in ballots will be distributed to all members in late August 2026. The deadline to return your ballot is October 5, 2026, with vote tabulation scheduled for October 6, 2026.

This is YOUR vote on who leads our International Union. Every member has the right – and the responsibility – to cast that ballot. Watch for your ballot in the mail this August and make sure your address is current with the UAW. You can update your information at myinfo.uaw.org.

UAW INTERNATIONAL PRIORITIES FOR 2026

UAW President Shawn Fain has laid out the union's four core priorities that affect every member of this Local: Wages, Health Care, Retirement, and Time Off. These are not just talking points – they are the foundation of every fight we take to the bargaining table. The International has also committed $40 million toward organizing auto and battery workers over the next two years. A stronger UAW nationally means a stronger Local 276 in Grand Prairie.

The UAW continues to fight bad trade deals that offshore American jobs and has been pushing Congress and the Administration to put working families first in all trade policy. When they come for jobs in our industry, they are coming for us. We stand united against that.

MIDTERM ELECTIONS – NOVEMBER 3, 2026

“There's a direct relationship between the ballot box and the bread box.” The UAW has always said it, and it has always been true. On November 3, 2026, ALL 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and 35 U.S. Senate seats are on the ballot. The laws that protect our right to organize, bargain, and strike are made by the people we send to Washington. We cannot afford to sit this one out.

Early voting dates vary by state. In Texas, watch for announcements from Tarrant and Dallas County Election Offices. Make sure you are registered to vote. Talk to your family, your neighbors, and your coworkers on the floor. When working people vote together, we win together.

A listing of UAW-endorsed labor candidates will be posted on our website and app as endorsements are announced. Stay tuned.

In Solidarity,

MIKE CARTWRIGHT
PRESIDENT
UAW LOCAL 276
