TEMPORARY TO PERMANENT TRANSITION

There has been a lot of conversation about the transition from temporary to seniority status. The language can be found on page 176 of the 2023 National Agreement. The 120 Full-Time Temporary employees will convert to permanent status on November 16, 2026.

The parties mutually agree to convert Full-time Temporary Employees to regular status employees upon the completion of nine (9) months of continuous service. These conversions will occur on the first Monday following the attainment of nine (9) months of continuous service.

SCHEDULE CHANGE SURVEY

Management has informed the Union of the desire to go to a straight 8 schedule. The Union has fought for the opportunity for the membership to decide how that straight 8 schedule would look. (For example, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM and paid for 8 hours.)

On September 9th & 10th we will be conducting a survey to determine which schedule the membership desires. The voting will take place in the People Center and cafeteria on all 3 shifts.

SOLIDARITY WEDNESDAY – WHY WE WEAR RED

UAW members wear red shirts on Wednesdays as a symbol of solidarity. This tradition, also practiced by other unions, is a way for workers to show unity and make a visible statement to management and the public. The practice is not meant to be confrontational but rather a positive expression of workers standing together. How did it start? “Gerry Horgan was a CWA chief steward for Westchester County in New York who died in August of 1989 while he worked a picket line. He left behind a wife and two daughters. The vehicle that struck him was driven by a SCAB and the teenage daughter of a manager who was never charged for his death. UAW wear red shirts on Wednesday to remember Horgan and the sacrifices he made protecting the picket line.” We would like to thank all members that are participating and wearing their Red Shirt on Wednesdays.

ASK DON’T TAKE / FS

Year to date, our members have received 14,286 days off without using vacation due to the ask don’t take / FS program.
