Sub-Council 2 – Production
Shop Committees from all over America met in New Orleans to review and approve the items of contention which will be negotiated with General Motors. We went over all the demands, which included topics like Appendix A, Document 8, Education and Training, GMS, Health Care, Wages, and many more. We read, discussed, and debated many demands to send the Top Committee to the table with a true voice of the membership. These demands were voted on and approved by the attending body and now will be forwarded to the Top Bargaining Committee to review and then submit to General Motors.
Sub-Council 5 – Skilled Trades
There was finally a breakthrough with General Motors regarding the remaining 261 apprentice slots that they have a contractual obligation to fill from the 2019 National Agreement. General Motors has agreed to fill the remaining 261 apprentice slots this summer just ahead of contract negotiations. They will also be placing apprentices in the Mechanical trades such as Pipefitter, Millwright, and Machine Repair. This has been an item of contention since the signing of the 2019 Agreement. This is great news for all that have taken the Stark test and been patiently waiting on their turn to be placed into the program.
In Solidarity,
KENNY HINES
