Unit 1 Local Negotiations Update - 6-Day MOU
LETTER TO UNIT 1 (GM) MEMBERSHIP
LOCAL NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
6-DAY MOU
For almost a year, your Local Shop Committee and Local Management have been meeting to resolve the local demands presented by the membership here at Arlington Assembly. To date, we have made great strides with management in settling many of these demands but, as you know, the closer you get to the finish line, the harder the race becomes.
For the first time in over a decade we have a chance to let the members of UAW Local 276 have a voice in the 6-Day Operations MOU here at Arlington Assembly.
A demand was submitted during local negotiations to alter the 6-Day MOU so that all parties would have equal requirements and expectations in fulfilling the day-to-day operations here at Arlington Assembly.
Management has chosen not to resolve this matter, refused to bargain on this topic, and blatantly ignored any attempts to alter the MOU under which we have been operating for over the past decade. This is a blatant example of bargaining in bad faith and shows that Local Management is NOT committed to the well-being of this membership and is only concerned with how many trucks they can force off the end of the line.
Local Management does NOT care about the hardship and burden that this MOU puts on the membership and their families. General Motors promotes a “Family First” environment; we would love for them to live up to those claims. GM insists every day that we go the extra mile in making up for the corporation’s shortcomings but refuses to bargain on the basic needs of our membership.
Altering this MOU is imperative; it will aid in preserving seniority, creating jobs, and building a better work-life balance. Our members would finally get their voices back that were taken from them when this MOU was put in place. Our wise forefathers when writing the documents that established this great nation gave everyone a voice; our voice will be silent no longer. This Master to Slave mentality of local management must and will end, and to all parties we will not be silent until this issue is resolved.
We ask that you stand in solidarity with your Local Shop Committee as we try and cross the finish line to resolve this and other issues.
